Endless Demo Update MK.V + Possible Name Change


Just a smaller update this time round only overhauling the tutorial with actual tutorial messages to make the text a little easier to read and better silhouettes for enemies as they seemed to always appear shaded. A smaller update as to try my best not to get burnt out on game dev stuff and also debating on if I should change the name of the game and if so, what to. More at the bottom of the blog.

MK.V Changes:

Gameplay Changes:

  • Medals: XP rewards for specific actions like multiplier milestones and headshot/weakpoint kills. For now the medals system is really simple, are only for a small amount of simple actions, does not track the amount of medals of the same type you get and a lot of the medals will use a placeholder medal texture for the moment. In the future I'd like to build this to track medals, rewards items/achievements and be a little more refined in general but for now I'm happy about it.

At this moment medals only are rewarded for:

  • - Scoring headshot/weakpoint kills, 
  • - 10x Combo Multiplier (missing medal texture for now)
  • - 25x Combo Multiplier (missing medal texture for now)
  • - 50x Combo Multiplier (missing medal texture for now)

I plan to add more medals like:

  • - Mid air kills 
  • - Long Distance kills 
  • - Multi Kills (Double/Triple/Quadruple and the like)

General Changes:

  • Changed the ear piercing headshot kill sound to the much better (and less annoying) sound. - The old sound was an experiment for feedback on headshot kills, it kind of worked but the sound choice was understandably undesirably.
  • Changed the in-world tutorial text with pop-up windows. 
  • Changed the grid texture to use inverse colours with a grey colour to help with text readability and to give the dummy's in the weapons area better silhouettes.

Okay, so about the whole game naming this:
For a while it's been weighing on me that the current name is a little too unmemorable and plus it's already used for a widely known mobile game I've tried bouncing names around myself and friends to find something that sounds good AND sticks. I've gotten a name in mind that I'd like to change to the only thing stopping me is, if it's worth it. In the next update the game may be called "Ballistic Chaos" as opposed to what it is now but we will have to see, lemme know if it's a good name for a game or not.
